The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD), in partnership with the Cleveland Foundation, is pleased to announce the creation of the United Macedonian Diaspora – Funding the Future Endowment Fund (“Fund”).
The Cleveland Foundation, a historic and world-renowned investment trust, will manage the Fund. Monetary gifts and proceeds invested by the Cleveland Foundation will generate sufficient long-term resources for UMD’s continued mission of promoting the interests and needs of Macedonians and our communities worldwide. UMD was founded 12 years ago to promote and safeguard the rights, common believes, culture, and heritage of Macedonians. This partnership now allows donors to include UMD in their legacy and estate planning process.
“UMD needs sustainable, long-term assets in order to successfully achieve its objectives. In the medium to long-term, we believe that the most effective way to secure such resources is through the establishment of the Endowment,” stated UMD Chairman Stojan Nikolov.
“By partnering with a world renowned organization, such as the Cleveland Foundation, we are demonstrating our commitment to being good stewards of the donations, which have been made by our members and for which we are responsible,” stated UMD Macedonian Companion Donald L. Sazdanoff who spearheaded efforts to help kick-start the Endowment.

About the Fund
United Macedonian Diaspora - Funding the Future Endowment Fund is a pool of gifts that provides ongoing financial assistance to UMD to support its programs and activities. The fund is held and managed by the Cleveland Foundation, which invests the gifts for greater return on investment and prudent growth.
Why it Matters
The Endowment will provide UMD with a bedrock of financial resources to ensure that UMD can successfully accomplish its mission for generations to come. That financial certainty will strengthen the UMD administrative infrastructure allowing the organization to focus more exclusively on its mission to build a stronger, more collaborative, and successful global Macedonian community. The core objectives will continue to be: Policy & Education; Leadership Development (Generation M, Birthright Macedonia, and Scholarship & Internship Programs); Cultural Preservation and Promotion; and Charitable Efforts.
How You Can Help
To realize the return on investment required to sustain UMD’s annual budget, UMD needs to raise a minimum of $6 million. UMD encourages donations of $100,000 or more, $50,000, $25,000, $15,000, and up to $10,000 per year. Based on the donation level, donors will be recognized as Inaugural Endowment Visionaries.
Several very generous patrons of UMD have already pledged or donated to start the Fund, but wider support is needed from the community, individuals, clubs, church communities and businesses. A donation of any amount is of great help; we also need your support to spread the word, sponsor fundraisers, and involve all members of the global Macedonian community. All donors will be recognized in the Honor Roll of Donors in UMD’s Annual Report.
